The Red Seal exam for automotive service technicians consists of multiple-choice questions, each with four possible choices (A, B, C and D). The test has a maximum time limit of hours. The questions are based on the National Occupational Analysis (NOA) sub-tasks, and the NOA specifies the proportion of the total number of questions given to each main work activity.
To help prepare for the Red Seal test, CourseTree Learning provides a flashcard training program with questions on the front and answers on the back. Ashton College also provides an Automotive Service Technician Red Seal Exam Prep course that is based on the trade's Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS).
